Parents, Teachers, Community Leaders Develop Education Priorities at the “Our Turn Education Forum: Denver Speaks Out for Public Schools”

Denver residents concerned with public education had an opportunity Wednesday evening to send their top priorities to those seeking the highest office in Colorado. The Colorado Schools First coalition held a facilitated discussion at the Montview Presbyterian Church as part of their “Our Turn Education Forums” with parents, teachers and education leaders. This was the fifth in a series of forums across the state.

“This is our opportunity elevate the issue of education in a very important year that will set priorities in Colorado for decades to come,” said Liane Morrison Co-Founder of Great Education Colorado and Colorado Schools First Coalition member.

Community Participants in Denver developed their top education priorities:

• Provide more resources dedicated to lowering student to teacher ratio and creating and maintaining safe and clean facilities.

• Create a broader measure of success that lowers the reliance on CSAP.

• Build equity within and between schools.
• Develop a supportive culture that increases school, family and community collaboration to provide students with greater opportunities.

• Provide transparency and clear communication between schools, communities and elected officials on how resources are allocated.

The next education forum will be held in Weld County.
