Parents, Teachers, Community Leaders Develop Education Priorities at the “Our Turn Education Forum: Greeley Speaks Out for Public Schools”

Greeley residents concerned with public education had an opportunity Wednesday evening to send their top priorities to those seeking the highest office in Colorado. The Colorado Schools First coalition held a facilitated discussion at the Centennial Library as part of their “Our Turn Education Forums” with parents, teachers and education leaders. This was the sixth in a series of forums across the state.

“This is our opportunity elevate the issue of education in a very important year that will set priorities in Colorado for decades to come,” said Kate Snyder, Colorado Schools First Coalition member and spokesperson for Communities for Quality Education

Community Participants in Greeley developed their top education priorities:
• Provide more resources dedicated to lowering student to teacher ratio and retaining teachers.
• Improve accountability systems and create a broader measure of success that lowers the reliance on CSAP.
• Develop a curriculum that prepares students for the 21st century including technology and science.
• Ensure that public education stays public- no vouchers and no charter schools.
• Make education more child centered to ensure successful transitions from school to work, college or vocational training.
