New Study Reveals Strong Consensus on Agenda to Transform Public Education
Communities for Quality Education (CQE) has compiled the most comprehensive study of organizations’ recommendations for positive changes to the No Child Left Behind law (NCLB) and a framework for raising student achievement and improving schools. The findings illustrate strong consensus on what works to transform public education across a diverse range of stakeholders.
CQE researched the public statements and policy papers of over 30 diverse groups – including state and local officials, business groups, and key civil rights, education, parent and community advocates. The research identified consensus among the groups around seven key priorities:
- Improving accountability systems
- Providing more help to struggling schools
- Finding new ways to recruit, reward and keep quality teachers
- Ensuring that students learn the skills needed to succeed in work and life
- Providing more individualized learning and supports in the classroom
- Reducing barriers to learning by making it easier for parents and communities to get involved in schools
- Providing adequate financial resources to support school improvement
