About this project
Communities for Quality Education thinks that parents and students have a right to know how the No Child Left Behind law affects their schools. This website combines information from the Ohio Department of Education, the Children's Defense Fund, the State of Ohio, and other sources to provide Ohioans with a better understanding of the state of their local school districts.
The No Child Left Behind law has carried a heavy price tag for Ohio schools and taxpayers. The Ohio Department of Education has calculated that the law annually costs Ohio $1.5 billion in additional costs that are not met by the federal government. As Ohio's schools reel under an antiquated school funding system, these additional costs fall to the expense of local districts, which are having to to lay off teachers and raise taxes to keep schools going.
The burden of No Child Left Behind cannot be left to our communities, nor can our children excel without the resources they need to learn. Until No Child Left Behind is fully supported by the federal government, Ohio's children will continue to be left behind.
